Jaguar originally were know as the Swallow Sidecar Company back when they were founded in 1922 by Sir William Lions and William Walmsley. They produced the SS 90 and the SS 100 in the mid 1930’s. After the Second World War the ‘SS’ name on their cars was dropped due to its association with the Nazi’s and the company became known as The Jaguar Car Company. Jaguar made its name in the late 1940’s with the XK 120 and XK 140 models . In motor racing Jaguar won Le Mans in 1951, 1953, 1954, 1956 and 1957. In the late 1950’s the road going Jaguar MK1 and 2 Saloons hit the road swiftly followed by the famous E-Type. Jaguar merged with the British Motor Corporation in 1966 which later became British Leyland in 1968 and then Austin Rover in the Early 1980’s. In 1999 Ford bought Jaguar and eventually sold it to Tata Motors in 2008. Jaguar continue to have success with luxury models like the S type, X type, XK and the XKR.
