Kyosho Diecast Model Cars
The Kyosho Corporation was founded in 1963 in Tokyo and sold toys and sundry goods. In 1970 Kyosho began to sell remote control cars inspired by the US airmen based in Japan during the Vietnam War who used to race these models cars in their spare time. Kyosho’s first production RC car was named the Dash 1 and gained instant notoriety with its realistic body work and engine sound. The RC car craze had started in Japan and swiftly spread to Europe.
In 1992 Kyosho began to produce die cast model cars. At first their models were a little out of proportion but gradually they improved and now their quality rivals Minichamp and Auto Art.
Kyosho die cast cars body work and interior detail is excellent especially in the 1/18th scale and 1/12th scale models. When you buy a Kyosho die cast model you are buying a work of art. Kyosho produce a huge range of Japanese, American and European models with new die cast cars being regularly released. Kyosho make models of Nissan, Honda, Datsun, Mitsubishi, Mazda and Toyota for their home market. For the US market they make Cadillac die cast models and for Europe Kyosho make Ferrari, Lamborghini, Caterham, Lotus, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Lancia, Austin and Fiat model cars.
As well as manufacturing die cast cars and RC Cars Kyosho also make RC Planes, RC Boats and RC Helicopters with electric and IC engines.
Recently a tiny RC car called a Mini Z took the market by storm especially in Japan and the US. The Mini Z is a scale 1/24th scale car with a fully proportional controlled radio system. A vast number of spares are available to tune these cars and many clubs have been set up so that Mini Z’s can race each other. Because the Mini Z body shells are so good there is also a collector market for them like their die cast models
